Sparking conversations and inspiring the imagination, with a vision that cannot be taught, and must be personally experienced.
Harnessing creativity and perfecting my craft with practical experience.
Jim Maurer, a resident-divided between Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, LA was a court jester for infamous royalty in a previous life. In this one, he is a free-spirited ex-corporate renegade, a former bed and breakfast owner, and a full-time artist. At the age of 45 Jim returned to college , where he was introduced (or more accurately, forced) to learn traditional art skills. Unbelievably, he uncovered some hidden talent…Who knew!
For the past 9 years Jim has been selling his signature black and white silhouettes in Jackson Square in New Orleans, Louisiana to eager tourists from across the globe. In addition to dead rock stars, cinema icons and favorite characters from his TV-bloated childhood, he custom paints families, pets and buildings from digitally manipulated photos of his own taking or those given to him by appreciative clients.
Over the years Jim has explored many different styles of art. Recently after a margarita fueled conversation with a good friend Jim happened across his latest and greatest style of art. After years of toy collecting Jim is now creating whimsical assemblages from vintage and contemporary toys. With names like Damn This Traffic Jam, Go Yinz Go, and Manna From Louisiana the names are almost as interesting as the art itself.
Ever-advancing my skills and perspective, I'm only as good as my last work.
Seeing what others don't, creating what others won't.
